History

On March 5, 1999, South Seas University (SSU) received its registration from the Cook Islands government as an independent, autonomous degree-granting institution of tertiary education in all areas of academic and professional fields, including but not limited to agriculture, architecture, business, engineering, performing arts, health, law, medicine, and teaching.

SSU was established because of a need to develop human resources and to bring socioeconomic transformation through education, development of skills, and technology.
